Gomel Oblast’s export of tourism services 26.4% up in 2018

GOMEL, 5 March (BelTA) – In 2018 Gomel Oblast exported over $17.1 million worth of tourism services, 26.4% up from 2017, BelTA learned from Denis Yezersky, Head of the Sport and Tourism Office of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, on 5 March.
According to the source, Gomel Oblast managed to hit its assigned target of $14.4 million in 2018. Gomel Oblast was the leader in terms of the growth rate of export of tourism services and had the third place after Minsk and the oblast in terms of the volume of export of tourism services.
Denis Yezersky noted that a substantial amount of work is being done in Gomel Oblast to attract foreign tourists and encourage the development of various kinds of tourism in the region. For instance, in 2018 Gomel Oblast’s tourism potential was presented at 25 expos and forums not only in Belarus but also abroad – in Moscow, Kiev, Beijing, Kursk, Tallinn, and Berlin. Promo products were made as well as video presentations. Tourist routes were improved and topical seminars and panel sessions were arranged.
At the same time there are reasons to believe that Gomel Oblast’s tourism potential is not used in full. Denis Yezersky mentioned the development of domestic tourism as a priority area. “It is necessary to encourage Gomel Oblast residents to travel all over Belarus. It is necessary to encourage school and university students, young people, representatives of companies to visit places of interest,” the official explained.
