Total amount of oil extracted in Belarus reaches 140 million tonnes

GOMEL, 6 October (BelTA) – Belorusneft Company has extracted the 140,000,000th tonne of oil, BelTA has learned.
The milestone was reached in the Rechitskoye oil field.
The event coincided with the 55th anniversary since the company’s foundation: the order to set up Belorusneft was signed in February 1966. The first commercial oil flow was secured in the Rechitskoye oil field in 1964. The commercial operation of oil fields in Belarus began in 1965. The oil company reached the 1,000,000 tonne milestone in 1967.
In 1975 the annual oil extraction hit a record high of 7,953,000 tonnes. The 100 million tonnes of oil milestone was reached in September 1998.
As many as 90 deposits of oil and gas condensate had been discovered in Belarus by the beginning of 2021. All of them are located within limits of the Pripyat Trough. As many as 64 oil deposits are in development. Nearly half of all the recoverable reserves of Belarusian oil are located within limits of the top five oil fields: Rechitskoye, Ostashkovichskoye, Vishanskoye, Yuzhno-Ostashkovichskoye, and Yuzhno-Sosnovskoye. Belorusneft actively uses modern technologies that allow extracting so-called hard-to-recover oil reserves.
