35 Belarus’ pilot regions selected for Sustainable Development at Local Level project

MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) – Belarus has selected pilot regions for the implementation of the EU/UNDP Sustainable Development at Local Level project, BelTA learnt from Vladislav Khilkevich, information coordinator for the UN Development Programme in Belarus. The preliminary selection took place in Minsk on 18 August. The project envisages close cooperation between the authorities and local communities at the regional level. Therefore, the regions interested in the development of Local Agendas-21 (local strategies for sustainable development) and Green Routes were to coordinate their interest with the public and local authorities and send the relevant letters to a contest committee. The committee received 58 such letters. Thirty-five administrative and territorial units from all six oblasts of Belarus have been finally selected. The experts and personnel of the project will hold a practical training in the selected regions. These pilot regions will receive necessary assistance in developing Local Agendas-21 and Green Routes.
