Alexander Lukashenko: Belarus has always been Russia’s close ally

Belarus has always been a close ally of Russia and is fully committed to its obligations, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at a press conference for the Russian regional mass media. “Unfortunately, there are too many myths about the life in our country. There are some people and some media outlets in Russia that have pathological dislike of Belarus and invent tall stories about our country. This time, for example, insinuations about South Ossetia and Abkhazia. They declared that Russia has no allies, no friends. Let me put it straight: Belarus has always been an ally of Russia and fully committed to its obligations” the Head of State said. Alexander Lukashenko underlined: “Our country was one of the first to provide assistance to the Ossetian people who suffered from the Georgian aggression. We expressed solidarity with Russia that quickly and efficiently enforced peace. We initiated working out a CSTO single position on the situation in Caucasus. In the information war launched by the West against Russia, Belarus has been actively pursuing the policy of all-round and consistent support of its strategic ally. I also would like to remind Belarus’ position on US anti-missile defence deployment in Europe. Why do the critics who claim to be objective remain silent on this fact?” The President noted he would like to use this meeting to tell the Russian public about the principled position of Belarus. The press conference convened reporters representing more than 70 mass media from 44 regions of Russia and Belarusian journalists that would be able to deliver true and objective information to all people, Alexander Lukashenko said.
