Alexander Lukashenko: new memorial in Trostenets should become true pan-European memorial

The new memorial in Trostenets should become a true pan-European memorial, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in his speech at the memorial Yama on October 20. In the years of occupation one of the world’s largest death camps Trostenets, where the Nazi murdered hundreds of thousands of people, including Europeans, was located not far from Minsk. “We decided to create a monumental memorial in Trostenets. I am sure not only Belarusians but volunteers from all over the world, all who hold humanism dear and believe they are true anti-fascists, will participate in the construction. It will be a true pan-European monument, a tribute to those generations all the severities and trials of the XX century befell upon,” said the President. “Our sacred motto is ‘Nothing is forgotten, no one is forgotten!’ We have a great debt to the memory of frontline fighters, guerrillas, underground resistance fighters and Nazism victims,” said Alexander Lukashenko. The President remarked Jewish guerrilla units made a special contribution to the history of the people’s fight in Belarus. Around 15,000 Jews were in guerrilla forces fighting together with Belarusians, Russians, Ukrainians and Poles. In the occupied Eastern Europe national Jewish guerrilla units existed only in Belarus, said the head of state.
