Alexander Lukashenko urges achievement of planned development goals

MINSK, April 16 (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has demanded that all development goals envisaged by the five-year plan should be achieved despite the complicated conditions. The President made the relevant statement as he made personnel decisions on April 16, the press service of the head of state told BelTA. “There is virtually no time to sit and think about it. We have less than two years before the five-year term ends. The milestones we have set are very hard to reach but we must do it against all the odds,” emphasised the President. In his opinion, intense work is needed to reach the goal. Alexander Lukashenko believes every region should have a specific action programme and be persistent in implementing it. “There is no other way. You should clearly understand that and reach out for it through administrative decisions,” the head of state told newly appointed executives. “In your positions you will have to create all the necessary conditions for sustainable development of the economy, social sphere. You will have to be flexible in dealing with problem situations. You will have to be attentive to people’s requests”. The President underlined that nowadays it is extremely important to learn how to wisely act in more complicated conditions, how to use new economic levers of regional development. It can be done via more active search for investments, wise assimilation of innovative technologies. “We have enough initiatives. Choose the best ones and back them up,” added the head of state. Efforts should be exercised to apply a systematic approach to rational and effective use of material resources and especially fuel and energy resources. The President underlined that frugality and conservation should become inalienable thinking traits of any executive. “In 2012 we plan to generate at least a quarter of the electrical and heating energy using local fuels and alternative energy sources. It is your extremely important goal which should be pursued by every executive,” said Alexander Lukashenko. He remarked that the overall nationwide progress in achieving the goal is only half of the target so far. The industry should focus on quality and effectiveness as well as cost reduction. “The competition is severe now. The demand is low. People have started choosing on what to spend the little money they have. This is why if you make some old products, haven’t managed to upgrade, the quality should be outstanding,” said the head of state.
