Anne-Marie Lizin: door to Europe stays open for Belarus

For Belarus the door to Europe stays open, said Anne-Marie Lizin, head of the OSCE PA mission sent to Belarus to monitor the elections to the House of Representatives. “Despite the critical remarks made by OSCE observers, in any country we try to leave the door open in order to preserve opportunities for dialogue. We all believe that the present relations with Belarus can be improved,” stressed Anne-Marie Lizin as she met with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on September 30. She remarked in the European Union there are 27 countries and efforts should be exercised to work out a common view on Belarus. “We arrive in a country as part of the OSCE mission and see the life within a very short period of time. To see the main things is the main goal we arrive in another country with. But looking at these main things we always try to stay constructive,” said Anne-Marie Lizin.
