Belarus attends 20th session of UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) - The Energy Efficiency Department of the State Committee for Standardization and the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva discussed cooperation within the framework of international projects in energy efficiency and renewable energy under the auspices of the UNECE, and promoting initiatives and interests of Belarus in the UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy, BelTA learnt from the department. Belarusian specialists took an active part in the 20th session of the UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy in Geneva. The Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Standardization, Director of the Energy Efficiency Department Leonid Shenets made a report on the results, goals and objectives of Belarus in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy. The session addressed the issues of sustainable energy, including the creation of conditions for effective consumption of primary energy, infrastructure and markets for efficient conversion, transfer and end-use of sustainable energy. “The session also discussed the Committee's program of work for the next two years, program of regional advisory services in the field of energy, energy efficiency and renewable energy,” Leonid Shenets informed. Representatives of the Energy Efficiency Department held a number of working meetings with the top officials and specialists of the UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy, other international organizations and national delegations. They discussed cooperation in energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy. The Belarusian delegation agreed on possible long-term cooperation with Cleantech Switzerland. There are plans to hold the Days of Switzerland as part of the Belarusian Industrial Forum in May 2012.
