Belarus parliament approves ratification of CIS secret information protection agreement

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – The Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus approved the bill on ratifying the agreement on secret information protection within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States at the session on 9 October, BelTA has learned.

The document clearly specifies the terms used in the agreement, forms of cooperation between the states parties to the agreement in protecting secret information in CIS agencies, protection measures and procedures for their implementation.

At the session the Council of the Republic approved the ratification of the protocol on amending the agreement on the mutual protection of secret information within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization of 18 June 2004. The amendments are designed to address matters concerning the protection of secret information in CSTO agencies.

The upper chamber of the Belarus parliament also approved amendments to several Belarusian laws concerning information protection. In particular, the document specifies the authority of the head of state, the Council of Ministers, the Operations and Analysis Center under the President, and the State Security Committee with regard to control over the protection of state secrets.
