Belarus’ PM meets with Venezuelan president
Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro discussed sanctions pressure on the two countries during their meeting on 15 July, BelTA has learned.
According to the Belarusian head of government, Belarus and Venezuela are in a very difficult situation. “We have more sanctions imposed on our countries,” the prime minister said. “No matter how strange it may look but we are observing the positive effect of these sanctions right now. It comes in the form of growing industrial production, development of new economic sectors, a gradually developing independent scientific and industrial base. We simply have no other way in the current situation.”
Nicolas Maduro agreed with Roman Golovchenko by saying: “We are on the same path. I admire Belarus because you have managed to find your own way. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, President Aleksandr Lukashenko set a goal to find his own way of development and achieved it. I admire him a lot.”
“I would like to convey you the warmest words of support and confidence in your victory [in the upcoming presidential election] from your friend, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko. You are a man who confidently moves along the path of national revival and firmly follows the principles,” the Belarusian head of government added.
Nicolas Maduro said that his visits to Belarus had helped him adopt an approach to making Venezuela food-sufficient. “I kept wondering when I could do the same in Venezuela. Tell President Aleksandr Lukashenko that I am looking forward to welcoming him here with a very good lunch, and everything he is going to taste here will all be locally produced,” the Venezuelan president said.
Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko is on an official visit to Venezuela. After that he is set to travel to Cuba and Nicaragua. The goal of the current trip of the Belarusian government delegation is to develop cooperation with faraway countries.
