Belarus President: rejection of protectionism should become main G-20 goal

SVETLOGORSK, April 7 (BelTA) – Rejection of protectionism should become the major goal of the G-20 countries, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told reporters in Svetlogorsk on April 7. “I am glad that the participants of the G-20 summit agreed not to resort to protectionist measures. I hope this commitment will be honoured and the states will not block the imports in their countries,” the head of state said. President of Belarus was pleased to say that all the summiteers found the common ground taking into consideration the positions of the US and Great Britain that proposed to allocate more money to encourage economic growth and France and Germany advocating a stricter administrative control over financial markets. “It is right. There should be control. After all, global economy should not be turned into a casino,” Alexander Lukashenko said. The Belarusian head of state underlined the importance to observe the decisions of the summit, in particular the rejection of protectionism towards export-oriented countries, like Belarus. “If the G-20 states, Russia first of all, abide by the decision not to resort to protectionism, at least half of the crisis-related problems will be resolved,” the President said. This issue is not solved even with Russia yet. “We will wait and see. It will be good if the decisions taken in London are honoured. If not, we will manage alone relying solely on ourselves,” the head of state concluded.
