Belarus President: relations between nations are not measured by gas and oil figures

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Relations between countries and nations are not measured by cubic meters of gas or tonnes oil, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko after the pre-premiere screening of the Belarusian-Russian feature film Brest Fortress in Minsk’s cinema Tsentralny on 17 June. The Belarusian head of state asked Igor Ugolnikov, head of the Union State Television and Radio Broadcasting Organization, to deliver the movie to Russia’s leadership as soon as possible. The movie was very topical for them, said Alexander Lukashenko. The Belarus President stressed that relations between countries and nations are not measured by cubic meters of gas and tonnes of oil, with or without duties. “One should remember what we fought together to protect,” stressed Alexander Lukashenko. According to the head of state, the movie had made a storm of impressions of current interest for him. He said that he often hears the Russian leadership talk about pragmatism at talks in Moscow. “It is necessary to reformat our relations and make them more pragmatic,” Alexander Lukashenko quoted the Russian leadership. He added it is a buzzword in Moscow these days. “I would like them to watch the movie [Brest Fortress]. We were once in the same trenches,” said the President. He made it clear he was against any diplomatic or economic revenge. “One just has to remember what our history was,” said Alexander Lukashenko. According to the President, the Brest Fortress movie is a very timely film. He said he is ready to continue participating in making such films.
