Belarus President visits Petrikov on Easter

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko lit a candle in the Church of St Nicholas the Wonderworker in Petrikov, Gomel Oblast, on 24 April, BelTA has learnt. “I have a unique opportunity to greet you at your home. Polesie is my most lovely place,” Alexander Lukashenko said addressing those who came to mark this great feast. The President noted that recently a lot has been said about Polesie revival. “Last year the revival of this place was completed. I am confident that this land will reach the beauty it deserves,” the President said. Alexander Lukashenko also mentioned the tragic date in the history of the Belarusian nation, the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident. The President noted that a lot is yet to be done to revive the contaminated area. The President presented the church with the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. Bishop of Turov and Mozyr Stefan gave the head of state the icon of the Resurrection of Christ and the bible. Alexander Lukashenko talked to the residents of Petrikov and congratulated them on this great feast, the Resurrection of Christ.
