Belarus-Ukraine trade to exceed $8bn in 2012

GOMEL, 6 December (BelTA) - Trade between Belarus and Ukraine in 2012 will be up 32.5% from the previous year to exceed $8 billion First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko said at the meeting of the heads of the border regions of the two countries and the joint commission on trade and commission in Gomel. Addressing the participants of the meeting and First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Valery Khoroshkovsky, Vladimir Semashko noted that the trade for 10 months this year already exceeded the trade for the entire 2011. "This attests to the positive dynamics of the development of economic relations between the countries and expanding cooperation between the border regions," he said. As a positive example, the First Deputy Prime Minister cited the creation of the joint venture to manufacture passenger rolling stock. However, he said, the two countries have considerable reserves to boost trade and industrial cooperation. In particular, the agreements on industrial cooperation are underutilized. "It is necessary to set up more joint ventures, which will enable us to promote manufactured products to the markets of the Customs Union and the European Union," said Vladimir Semashko.
