Belarus urges CIS to develop brand new energy projects

The Belarusian side is convinced that the CIS member states should start the development of brand new projects in the area of energy resources transportation and the use of economical and available alternative sources of energy, including biofuel, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian delegation participating in the informal summit of the CIS heads of state in Saint Petersburg. The energy problem is brought to the forefront of the discussion as an instrument of maintaining national security of the CIS member states. The next year of the CIS work will be dedicated to the energy issues. According to the Belarusian side, it is necessary to start the thorough development of new projects right now in order to be able to launch as many programmes as possible in the coming year. These projects should take into consideration global trends and peculiarities of the CIS energy market. The Belarusian side is convinced that the CIS should seek more efficient ways of using traditional sources of energy. The CIS member states should jointly study the projects of development of the small-scale nuclear power, the implementation of small modular power plants for certain power-consuming enterprises, industrial zones or zones where the construction of big power stations is difficult. The implementation of the new progressive forms of atomic energy will give an additional impetus to the development of the fundamental and applied sciences, education and industry.
