Belorusneft, Myanmar Energy Ministry ink cooperation agreement

GOMEL, 11 April (BelTA) – A protocol on cooperation between the manufacturing corporation Belorusneft and the Energy Ministry of Myanmar was signed in Gomel on 11 April. By signing the document the sides expressed their readiness to implement joint projects in the gas and oil industry, BelTA has learned. Belorusneft Director General Alexander Lyakhov said at the ceremony the company has vast experience of providing oil and gas survey and extraction services abroad. Belarusian specialists have worked in Venezuela, Algeria, India, Russia and other countries. The experience can be used in Myanmar, which is “a leading country in oil reserves in Asia. Many companies are willing to work there. I think we will be able to handle competition on this market,” said Alexander Lyakhov. The delegation of the Energy Ministry of Myanmar has been staying in Belarus since 8 April. In Gomel Oblast members of the delegation have visited several installations of Belorusneft. They got familiar with the technology to drill offshoots in oil wells, a seismic survey technology and a hydrofracturing technology. The visit to Belarus became possible thanks to the agreements reached during the visit of Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich to Myanmar on 1-3 December 2011. In 2011 Belarus-Myanmar trade totaled $27.3 million, with Belarus’ export at $26.6 million. Special machines constitute the bulk of Belarusian export to Myanmar. Last year Belarus started delivering potash fertilizers. Instrument kits, pumps and tires were supplied as well.
