Boris Batura: Native Land Year major goal has not been reached yet

ZHLOBIN, 20 November (BelTA) – The programme of events dedicated to the Year of the Native Land is being implemented, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Boris Batura said at an on-site meeting that highlighted the cooperation between the local government bodies under the Council of the Republic on 20 November. The session focused on the activity of the local councils of deputies of the Zhlobin region within the framework of the Year of the Native Land. According to Boris Batura, the country invests heavily in various environmental actions. Local authorities have already done a lot in the area. Yet, there are places which remain abandoned or mismanaged especially near ponds and in the forest. According to the Speaker, the major goal of the Year of the Native Land has not been achieved yet. The programme is unlikely to be completed in 2009. “The work needs to be continued,” Boris Batura stressed. He also emphasized the necessity to take care of water resources and land of Belarus. Boris Batura believes that at present there is a need to intensify the agricultural development without undermining the ecological balance.
