Dazhynki harvest festival kicks off in Zhlobin

GOMEL, 27 September (BelTA) – The nationwide harvest festival Dazhynki 2013 opened in Zhlobin, Gomel Oblast, on 27 September. The country’s best agricultural workers will be feted at the two-day fest in the city of Belarusian steelworkers, BelTA has learnt.

Zhlobin make serious preparations for the festival. The action plan of preparations for the Dazhynki festival included building, upgrading and overhauling 301 facilities and buildings. An estimated Br1.3 trillion was allocated from the state budget for these purposes. National and oblast departments also made a big contribution to the renewal of social, trading and banking facilities. The city saw some 26 kilometers of its streets covered with new asphalt, its pavements and other road infrastructure beautified.

More than 2,000 builders were engaged in the reconstruction and construction works in the city in the run-up to the festival. Local companies took an active part in the preparations, too. The residents of the city held weekly clean-up days which were supported by people from other cities of the oblast, including members of government bodies, public and youth organizations.

A part of big facilities (for instance, totally rebuilt bus station Zhlobin) has already been opened. Regular rail service from Zhlobin to Minsk will be provided during the festival.

Partaking in the cultural program of Dazhynki 2013 will be over 2,000 professional and amateur artists. The city expects to welcome People’s Artist of Ukraine Taisia Povaliy, music bands Belorusy and Tyani-Tolkay, Alexander Tikhanovich and Yadviga Poplavskaya, Alyona Lanskaya, Zhanet and other well-known Belarusian singers, artists of the Gomel Philharmonic, numerous popular amateur groups.

The row of trading stalls will nearly five kilometers long. Up to 400 open-air stands and street cafes will be open for the participants and guests of the festival.
