Gomel to host Belarus’ Open Deaf Athletics Indoor Cup

GOMEL, 3 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ Open Deaf Athletics Indoor Cup will be held in the Athletics Palace in Gomel on 4-6 February, BelTA learned from the Physical Education, Sport and Tourism Department of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee The sport event will welcome athletes from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan and Poland. Winners in the individual and team events will be awarded with cups, medals and diplomas. According to the Physical Education, Sport and Tourism Department, the competition is part of the sport events schedule of the Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry for 2011. Gomel is famous for its strong deaf athletics traditions. Gomel athletes achieved outstanding results at various sport competitions, for example, Margarita Gralko’s victory at the 2009 Deaflympics. Gomel is planning to play host to the World Deaf Athletics Indoor Championship in October 2011, the department’s officials informed.
