Irish company to invest in alternative energy in Belarus

GOMEL, 18 May (BelTA) - The Irish company Pure Energy Intelligence intends to invest in the development of alternative energy in Belarus, the company CEO Torsten Merkel told journalists at the Gomel Economic Forum. “In Belarus we are going to develop projects on the use of solar energy, wind and biogas. According to our company's estimates, long-term investment in these areas may amount up to $8 billion,” the businessman said. The Irish company plans to build solar power stations in Gomel Oblast. The investment agreement was signed at the Gomel Economic Forum on 18 May. According to the business plan, so-called solar parks will be constructed at the area of more than 110 hectares in Bragin and Yelsk Districts in 2013-2016. Once up and running, solar power plants will generate 28MW. Electricity will be used for oblast needs.
