Makei optimistic about Belarus-EU relations

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Vladimir Makei, Head of the Belarus President Administration, is quite optimistic about the relations between Belarus and the European Union. The statement was made at the opening ceremony of the 13th Minsk Forum on 3 November, BelTA has learnt. “I am looking with optimism at the relations between Belarus and Germany, Belarus and the EU. I am confident that the future is promising,” said Vladimir Makei. In his words, “we are fated to live side by side”, and the acknowledgement of this fact is really important. “We should be calm and consistent in developing the dialogue in all areas of mutual interest,” he said. The Head of the Belarus President Administration noted that Belarus would like to adopt the positive experience of the EU and Germany, in particular, in the economy reformation, development of new technologies, and receive assistance in training economic specialists in Belarus. Underlining the importance of the economic cooperation, Vladimir Makei stressed that economic reforms in the country can entail the changing of its political life. Things should not be rushed, however, as they can bring negative results, according to him. Vladimir Makei believes that revolutionary decisions are no good, and the society should decide itself what changes it needs. “We need to support the mutual dialogue. Only then we will be able to reach the goals we are setting,” Vladimir Makei concluded.
