Over 8m tonnes of grain harvested in Belarus in 2011

MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) – In 2011 Belarusian agricultural companies harvested more than eight million tonnes of grain, up one million tonnes over the previous year, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said when speaking at the nationwide harvest festival, Dazhynki 2011, BelTA reports. Alexander Lukashenko noted that this year’s harvest is a third of a million tonnes higher than the average yield of the previous five years. Moreover, the harvest is superb. Belarusian farmers managed to thresh more grain because of bigger yield. In 2011 the yield soared by almost four centners as against 2010 to reach 34 centners per hectare. Alexander Lukashenko said that Belarusians love their land and work zealously and diligently. On 30 September Molodechno brought together the best farmers, true heroes of our time: qualified specialists, good managers. “It is our labor that strengthens the country. You are the pride and wealth of our country! Your efforts, professionalism, dedication to your vocation and responsibility help us reap bumper harvest and be confident in the future,” Alexander Lukashenko said. Of course, the results of farmers’ work depend on natural factors, which are, unfortunately, impossible to control. Nevertheless, our farmers mange to boost the harvest of grain year in year out, the President said.
