Petrolera BeloVenesolana starts drilling in water areas in Venezuela

GOMEL, 30 March (BelTA) - Specialists of the joint venture Petrolera BeloVenesolana started drilling a new operational well in the western oil fields in Venezuela, BelTA learnt from Belorusneft press service. The well will be drilled at Lake Maracaibo, Block VIII Centro. Depth is 3.7km. According to the specialists, Belarusians, despite the lack of big experience of working in internal water areas, have been quick in mastering the drilling programs. In 2011, when the field development just started, one of the wells made at Lake Maracaibo gave an oil flow to surface at a rate of 3,300 barrels per year, which is much bigger that other Venezuelan wells. At present the joint company is developing nine oil fields, with four of them being located in the Maracaibo belt. The company plans to produce 1.3 million tonnes of oil this year. The project in Venezuela is considered one of the major international projects of Belorusneft. The project is very promising. Its provision with recoverable reserves is two times higher than the level of the Belarusian region in terms of oil and eight times higher than in terms of gas. The Belarusian-Venezuelan joint venture Petrolera BeloVenesolana was established in December 2007. Belarus owns a 40% stake in the joint venture.
