Post-Soviet states should prepare for future threats

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – The post-Soviet countries should get ready to respond to future threats, Russian writer and scientist Sergei Kara-Murza said at a seminar at the Academy of Public Administration under the Aegis of the President of Belarus on 3 February, BelTA has learnt. “The threats emerging on the post-Soviet space today will hit us in the future. Therefore, we should acquire experience,” Sergei Kara-Murza said. The worst scenario for any state, as he sees it, is descending into a systemic crisis when any move of the state will only make it worse. “Here the major threat is the loss of state sovereignty,” the scientist said. During his presentation “Legitimacy of the state and post-modern political technologies” he distinguished between the terms “legitimacy” and “lawfulness”. Besides, the scientist tried to analyze the revolutions of the last centuries and determine their influence on the international situation. The seminar featuring Sergei Kara-Murza was arranged by the Academy of Public Administration under the Aegis of the President of Belarus. Tomorrow the scientist will present his second report “Anatomy of the post-Soviet society: case history”. Taking part in the seminar are about 100 representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the Interior Ministry, the KGB, the Prosecutor-General’s Office, the Information Ministry and the Education Ministry.
