Power outages at Belarusian border checkpoints Alexandrovka, Novaya Rudnya

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Due to power outages caused by the heavy snowfall at the Belarusian border checkpoints Alexandrovka and Novaya Rudnya the State Customs Committee of Belarus recommends that forwarding agencies and natural persons should temporarily use the border checkpoints Komarin and Novaya Guta, the press service of Belarus’ Customs told BelTA. Heavy snowfall has resulted in blackouts in seven districts of Gomel Oblast and Mogilev Oblast, with no electricity available in about 100 populated communities. External power sources are unavailable at the border checkpoints Alexandrovka and Novaya Rudnya at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, explained the source. At present the border checkpoints rely on auxiliary sources of power. However, the equipment has to be stopped every day for maintenance, resulting in lower processing capacity of the border checkpoints and possible queues. For the sake of reducing the time it takes to cross the border forwarding agencies and natural persons should use the nearby border checkpoints Komarin (for cars) and Novaya Guta (for trucks and cars).
