GOMEL, 24 October (BelTA) - Academic readings to commemorate outstanding aircraft designer Pavel Sukhoi will take place in Gomel as part of the international sci-tech conference, Contemporary Machine Science, on 23-24 October, BelTA learnt from the press service of the oblast executive committee.
The event which is held once in two years is organized by the P.O. Sukhoi State Technical University of Gomel and Sukhoi Company in Moscow. The conference will hear 106 reports from academic, university, research establishments and companies of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine. Machine science trends will be demonstrated by universities of Kiev, Zaporozhe, Samara and other cities. The meeting participants will consider issues related to the performance, reliability and durability of machines, including aircraft, modeling processes of destruction and deformation of heterogeneous elements, material processing, monitor development, etc.
Sukhoi Awards will be bestowed upon a group of the P.O. Sukhoi State Technical University staff in recognition of their contribution to the development of research activities.
Two-time Hero of Socialist Labor, Doctor of Engineering Science Pavel Sukhoi studied at the Gomel Gymnasium. In 1919 he returned from the frontline to work as a Math teacher in Gomel. A memorial to Pavel Sukhoi was unveiled in Gomel in December 1977. The technical university was named after the prominent aircraft designer in June 1995. For almost 20 years the Gomel technical university has been cooperating with the Sukhoi Design Bureau, conducting seminars, scientific and training conferences.
