Administrations of South-West District of Moscow and Gomel oblast sign cooperation agreements

Agreements on trade-economic and scientific-cultural cooperation between the administrations of the South-West Administrative District of Moscow and the town regional executives committees of the Gomel oblast were signed in Gomel today. Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Alexander Yakobson and Prefect of the South-West Administrative District of Moscow Aleksei Chelyshev took part in the ceremony. According to Alexander Yakobson, the event will become an important step on the way to expand the partnership between the two regions. “I am sure that it will be a powerful stimulus to advance cooperation in economy, culture, education and sport”, the official highlighted. An official delegation of the South-West Administrative District of Moscow led by Prefect Aleksei Chelyshev arrived in the Gomel oblast of Belarus today on June 13. The visit will be running through June 15. The delegation includes officials and specialists of various branches. The visit of the Russian delegation to this country is held within the framework of the Days of Moscow in Belarus. As BelTA learnt in the foreign-economic ties department of the economy committee of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, during the visit, the sides will discuss the prospects of cooperation between the two regions. The leadership of the Gomel oblast intends to discuss the implementation of a number of joint investment projects. The Moscow delegation will visit Gomel-based companies, educational establishments, sport and cultural centers. On June 13, a gala-concert of art groups and singers from the South-West Administrative District of Moscow will be held in the public-cultural center of Gomel. The Russian capital is one of the main trade-economic partners of the South-East region of Belarus. In January-May 2007, the foreign trade turnover between the Gomel oblast and Moscow made up $137 million, or 16% up as against the same period last year. In 2001, the Gomel oblast and the South-West Administrative District of Moscow signed the program of long-term cooperation. The Belarusian region holds fairs of Belarusian goods in the Moscow district on a regular basis. This year, Gomel-based industrial and trade companies sold goods in Moscow at the amount of $500 thousand, or four times more as against last year. In 2007, seven fairs are expected to be organized there.
