Architecture students to make sand sculptures in Gomel suburbs

GOMEL, 20 July (BelTA) - Architecture students of the Belarusian State University of Transport will gather for a plein-air near the village of Chenki, Gomel District, on the banks of the Sozh River on 23-24 July. The students are going to build a sand sculpture of the ancient church, BelTA learnt from Yevgeny Malikov, professor of the university - supervisor of the Shabunevsky student scientific society. During the plein-air future architects will recreate in the sand one of the oldest churches in Gomel Oblast. The church dating back to the 18th century is located in the village of Staraya Belitsa in Gomel District and is still operational. It is assumed that the mini-analogue of the church will be 3.5 meters high. The plein-air is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Gomel District and is supported by the local authorities. The Belarusian State Transport University has held such events since 2006. Architecture students have made sand sculptures of a dragon, knight's castle, a fern-flower and other things.
