Around 100 women to be released from Gomel correctional facility No 4 under amnesty

GOMEL, 26 June (BelTA) – Twenty-three women serving sentences in Gomel correctional facility No 4 will be released today under the amnesty which was declared to mark the 65th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders. Before going home, the women had a meeting with representatives of the procuracy and executive bodies, labour and social security service, healthcare and Orthodox eparchy, BelTA has learnt from the Gomel oblast prosecutor’s office. This is the first that local authorities have organized such a joint educational and information event. According to the organizers, the aim of the event is to help the pardoned to adapt faster in the society. The first steps are always most difficult. If you know what service to apply for, then many problems which seem unmanageable are solved quite quickly, said the organizers. During the meeting representatives of the local authorities spoke on social adaptation, necessary paperwork, targeted financial assistance, employment opportunities, healthcare programmes. More than 1,800 women serve sentences in Gomel correctional facility No 4. Around 100 women will be released under the amnesty. More than 250 women will have their prison sentences commuted.
