Belarus’ Andrei Tolchikov crowned World Junior Draughts Champion

VITEBSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Andrei Tolchikov from Gomel became the World’s Junior Champion in international draughts. The World Junior Championship ended in Vitebsk on 27 August. Daria Fedorovich from Minsk won silver in girls’ competition Andrei Tolchikov won six matches and ended two in a draw, and scored fourteen points to become the gold medalist. His main rivals Roel Boomspata and Pieter Steijlen from the Netherlands showed the equal points to become silver winners. It is second successive victory for Andrei Tolchikov. He was first at the European Youth Championship in early August. All in all, thirty draught players from ten countries competed at the World Junior Championship in Vitebsk. The tournament was organized by the Belarusian Draught Federation under the auspices of the World Draughts Federation (FMJD).
