Damage caused by ruptured Russian pipeline in Rechitsa region evaluated at Br570mn

The environmental safety service of the Gomel oblast has completed the evaluation of the environmental damage caused by the rupture of the Unecha-Rovno pipeline in February in the Rechitsa region. The financial claim worth of Br566.4 million has been forwarded to Zapadtransnefteprodukt, the owner of the pipeline, the chairman of the oblast committee for natural resources and environmental protection, Oleg Akushko, told BelTA. According to him the calculations were based on the general methods including the assessment of the damage to the land, river and air. Oleg Akushko said that all in all more than 20 tonnes of pure oil products were spilled. Around 2 thousand square kilometres of land and 30 thousand square meters of the floodplain pond were damaged. Within two months Zapadtransnefteprodukt should pay off for the damage by transferring the money to the republican environment fund, Oleg Akushko said. The reserve pipeline “Uneche-Rovno” owned by Zapadtransnefteprodukt ruptured in the morning February 14 in the Rechitsa region near the village of Zaspa. At the moment of the accident it had around 400 cubic meters of diesel oil.
