EU ambassadors to visit Gomel oblast

On October 11-12 ambassadors of some European Union member states will visit Gomel oblast. The visit is organized by the Embassy of Slovakia, the local representative of Portugal currently presiding over the European Union. The ambassadors will meet with local authorities of the Gomel oblast, businessmen and students as well as visit some manufactures, Charge d’Affaires ad interim of Slovakia to Belarus Lubomir Rehak told BelTA. Special attention will be paid to mitigation of consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe. The diplomats will visit the town of Khoiniki and the radiation reserve Polesye. “The purpose of the trip is to attract attention of EU ambassadors to the Chernobyl problem and to boost cooperation between Belarus and the European Union in this area,” Lubomir Rehak noted. In his words, the Slovakian Embassy has already helped organize similar trips to Vitebsk, Novopolotsk, Braslav, Grodno and Pinsk. Chairman of the State Border Committee Igor Rachkovsky invited EU ambassadors to take part in the ceremony of opening of the newly renovated dog training center of the Smorgon border guard unit. The center was upgraded with the assistance of the EU and UNDP.
