Preparations for the international festival Slavonic Brotherhood 2006 are being completed in Gomel. The event is traditionally held near the Friendship Monument, which is located at the meeting point of Belarusian, Russian and Ukraine state borders. This year the holiday of Slavonic friendship will be held on June 25 and will dedicated to the Youth Day. Thousands of young people and residents of Gomel, Chernigov and Bryansk regions will take part in the festival. The festival Slavonic Friendship has been a vivid example of strong and unbreakable friendship ties between the three brotherly nations for many years. Olga Antonenko, first deputy head of the culture department of Gomel region administration told BelTA, this year the event was organised by Belarus. The organisers prepared several events worth seeing for the guests and participants of the festival such as fireworks, which like a firefall will embrace three sides of the monument during the festival’s solemn opening ceremony. Coloured water fireworks at the lake near the monument, inflatable flower garlands suddenly opening in the water and a boat floating out of foam will be entertaining. According to Olga Antonenko, a dramatised performance “Oh, Woman! Goddess is Thy Name” will be devoted to the beautiful part of the mankind. The show will be held at the central festival stage to be another significant event scheduled to take place in Belarus in the Mother Year. Besides, a joint exhibition will showcase consumer goods. Olga Antonenko noted, among the participants of the festival will be artists of Gomel region drama theatre, folklore and choreographic troupes of Ukraine, Russia, the chamber music choir of Gomel region philharmonic. Kseniya Sitnik, Taisiya Povaliy, and Nadezhda Kadysheva are expected to play their part of the show.
