Gomel gears for 19th spartakiada of Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus
Gomel is gearing for the 19th spartakiada of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) which will be held in the town on September 18-21, Vladimir Makarenko, the director of the FTUB oblast sports club, told BelTA.
According to him, this is the third time that Gomel will be hosting the spartakiada. This year the spartakiada will feature 26 teams – winners of the industry-wide spartakiadas organised by the national committees. More than 1,000 amateur athletes will compete in volleyball, mini-football, darts, swimming, combined events, table tennis.
More than 19 sports facilities of Gomel will become venues of the spartakiada. Sports halls and grounds have been prepared for the competitions. The official opening of the competition will take place at the stadium of the Production Association Gomselmash. The event will conclude with an award ceremony in the Palace of Team Sports on September 21.
