Gomel oblast boosts milk production by 23,000 tons in January-May

Milk production in Gomel oblast in January-May 2006 totaled 233,800 tons which is 23,000 tons or 11 per cent more than on the same time last year, BelTA was informed in the committee for agriculture and foodstuffs of the Gomel oblast executive committee. All the regions of the oblast reported the increase in milk yield. The greatest figures were provided by the Dobrush region – 27 per cent, Svetlogorsk region – 21 per cent, Vetka region – 18 per cent, Gomel and Petrikov regions –16 per cent each. Productivity of dairy cattle also rose in all regions. The average milk yield was 1,408 kg per cow, some 161 kg more than last year. Agricultural companies of the following regions reported the biggest milk yields: Gomel region – 1,894 kg, Rechitsa – 1,722 kg and Svetlogorsk – 1,615 kg. Some 178,700 tons of milk were sold in January-May, an increase of 16 per cent as against same time last year.
