Gomel oblast completes equipping border checkpoints with automated control systems
On December 5 the Gomel oblast will complete equipping its border checkpoints with automated control systems. Till the end of the current year the systems will be going through the operation and maintenance phase, BelTA learnt from the Gomel frontier detachment.
According to the specialists, the systems will help border guards of all 15 border checkpoints get on-line information from the database of Belarus’ Interior Ministry about persons who are temporarily prohibited to leave Belarus.
The Gomel frontier detachment administers five border checkpoints offering simplified border crossing procedures, four railway and six automobile border checkpoints. Every year 2.5-3 million citizens of Belarus leave the country through these checkpoints.
Besides, the Interior Ministry of Belarus drafted a decree “On certain measures aimed at switching to the new procedure of letting Belarusians travel abroad”. The document provides for cancelling country exit stamps since January 1, 2008”.
