Gomel oblast interested in cooperation with Hungary in trade, construction, science and culture

Gomel oblast is interested in developing cooperation with Hungary in trade, construction, science, culture, sports and holding exhibition-fairs, Deputy Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Piotr Kirichenko stated at the conference “Belarus and Hungary: a shared view upon the future trade and economic cooperation” held in Budapest October 16. According to him, in the foreign trade turnover, Hungary is among the 15 largest CIS and non-CIS countries Gomel oblast trades with. Gomel oblast exports oil products, ferrous metal goods, mineral and chemical products, veneer and salt to Hungary. At the same time there are still a lot of empty niches in the foreign trade between the economic agents of Gomel oblast and Hungary. The current visit of a delegation of Gomel oblast to Hungary will give a considerable impetus to the bilateral contacts. The delegation has included representatives of the leaderships of such large companies of the region as Gomselmash, Gomel Machine-Tool Units Plant, Gomelsteklo and Gomel Alcoholic Beverage Works. Piotr Kirichenko also backed the development of mutual contacts in the sphere of education, culture, healthcare and recuperation. The Deputy Chairman was grateful to the Hungarian side for providing recuperation for Gomel children in Baranya in 2005-2006 and for a proposal to continue cooperation in the sphere in 2008. On October 17, the two countries plan to sign an agreement on cooperation between the regional departments of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry what, according to Piotr Kirichenko, will become an additional incentive to the development of the economic interaction of Gomel oblast and the Hungarian region of Baranya.
