The Gomel oblast has announced a contest for a regional anthem. The anthem is supposed to reflect the history and originality of the region.
The region has its own flag and emblem, Olga Antonenko, the deputy chief of the culture department of the Gomel Executive Committee, told BelTA. The anthem is the final stage of the work on developing the regional insignia. According Olga Antonenko, having own insignia cultivates patriotism and pride for the native land.
A contest committee has been set up to consider the lyrics of the future anthem. Once the best variant is chosen, the work will start on the music. According to Olga Antonenko, the region’s anthem will be played after the national anthem during different regional festivals and state holidays.
