The grain harvesting campaign has started in the Gomel oblast. Yesterday agricultural cooperative Sudkovo of the Khoiniki region thrashed 42 tonnes of winter barley. Chairman of the Khoiniki region executive committee Alexander Bichan told BelTA, today another five agricultural companies of the region started harvesting.
The early start of the harvesting campaign is attributed to the extraordinarily hot weather witnessed in May-June. The hot weather accelerated the maturation of crops, but unfortunately burnt and killed many of them. According to the latest data, dead crops account for 10% of the total area.
Today agricultural company Uritskoye of the Gomel region hosted an out session of the oblast executive committee, which discussed the readiness of the oblast agriculture for harvesting. Gomel oblast governor Alexander Yakobson told BelTA, he was satisfied with the readiness level, in particular, the readiness of agricultural company Uritskoye for grain harvesting. “Here machines and premises are totally prepared. Performance competitions among personnel have been arranged. Taking into account the positive example of this agricultural company other agricultural companies of the oblast should fix their problems and start grain harvesting on a large scale in a week,” said the governor.
