Gomel oblast to present 3 projects at Belarus Investment Forum in London

The economy commission of the Gomel oblast executive committee plans to present three investment projects at the Belarus Investment Forum in London. The biggest of them is the construction of a chippings plant with a capacity of 4 million cubic meters a year in the Lelchitsy region, BelTA learnt from the Gomel oblast executive committee. The new production is to be located at a separate ground without dismantling the currently operating chippings plant Glushkevichi. This plant is situated not far from the building stone deposit Krestyanskaya Niva. Its reserves are sufficient for the establishment of a big chippings plant. The 1990 geological survey revealed 256 million cubic meters of commercially exploitable reserves of building stone. The construction of a new plant is conditioned by the growing need in chippings in Belarus (it has picked up 64% in the recent years). Apart from that, the analysis of the foreign and domestic market shows that in 2007, 10 million cubic meters of chippings were produced in Belarus, of them 8.7 million cubic meters were supplied to the national market and 1.3 million cubic meters sold abroad. Taking into consideration the exports to Russia, the output of chippings has to reach 13 million cubic meters. The new enterprise will be equipped with two production lines with crushing equipment made in Russia, each of them having the capacity of 2 million cubic meters a year. The investment project also includes the construction of Glushkovichi-Mikhalki railway 124 kilometers long with a view to supplying the ready products directly to customers. The new plant therefore will be constructed in two stages. The project cost of the chippings plant construction is $100 million, Glushkovichi-Mikhalki railway $180 million. The project spans four years. An investor can take part in the project by setting up a joint venture or providing direct investment. The investment forum will also feature the projects on the construction of a cultural and entertainment complex in Gomel and the establishment of mineral and drinking water bottling line production. Gomel-Raton free economic zone will present its projects on the production of ferro silicon manganese and large-sized zinc-plated metalware.
