Gomel region sanitary service scraps over 1.5 tons of foodstuffs in H1 2006

In H1 2006 the sanitary service of Gomel region has scrapped over 1.5 tons of foodstuffs, representatives of Gomel regional hygiene, epidemiology, and public health centre told BelTA. The sanitary service attaches top priority attention to the quality of products sold through shops and markets. Regular raids sometimes detect unfair sellers. According to the source, meat products top the list of scrapped foods. Since January the sanitary service has seized over 500 kg of bad meat. Dairy products came second (around 300 kg of the total) and are followed by confectionery, vegetables and tinned foods. The source noted, keeping foods on sale beyond the shelf life and storing them in bad conditions are the two most popular violations among the sellers.
