Gomel region started vaccinating barn-door fowl against bird flu. Dmitriy Novik, specialist of the veterinary agency of the region administration's agriculture and food committee, told BelTA, the vaccination is carried out all over the region by specialists of the veterinary service.
According to Dmitriy Novik, on the whole, 1.5 million vaccine doses were bought, which will be enough for one-time vaccination. The vaccination will be carried out in 1,200 settlements located near water ponds and within three kilometres from them.
Specialists assume a second vaccination of barn-door fowl may be required. The veterinary service will act in view of how the overall situation in the country develops.
The source also noted, in March Gomel region hosted a joint training of the Belarusian emergency ministry and the veterinary service in bird flu locus liquidation. So far the situation in the region is under control, no bird flu cases have been reported.
