A branch of Gomel State University named after Frantsisk Skorina will be opened in China.
Head of the university’s international relations department Lyudmila Protchenko told BelTA, at present work is underway to set up a branch of Gomel State University on the basis of the pedagogical university in the city of Xuzhou the Gomel university has been cooperating with for ten years.
According to Lyudmila Protchenko, the main purpose of setting up the branch is preparing Chinese students for education at the GSU. Gomel professors are expected to go to China to teach Russian to the students. The possibility of sending staff to teach other disciplines is being considered. According to preliminary agreements, for two years Chinese students will have to study at the GSU branch to continue their education in Belarus starting with the third year. Lyudmila Protchenko specified, foreign students are mostly interested in philological, economic, and mathematical chairs.
Soon a delegation of the Chinese university is expected to arrive in Gomel. During the meeting the sides are expected to discuss details of the joint project, which implementation is scheduled for the next academic year.
