Gomel theater to stage The Threepenny Opera

GOMEL, 1 March (BelTA) – The Gomel Regional Drama Theater will present its interpretation of the musical The Threepenny Opera on 14 March, BelTA learnt from head of the literature section of the theater Irina Oleinik. The Threepenny Opera is the principal work of Bertolt Brecht. The 30-year old playwright woke up famous after his first song opera written together with Kurt Weill premiered in Germany in 1928. The play has been performed multiple times in virtually all the major theaters worldwide ever since. “A talented director Sergei Pavlyuk will present a modern interpretation of this play. The classic work will shine with new colors,” Irina Oleinik said. The audience will see a heartbreaking, emotional story of love and greed, faith and betrayal, honor and wickedness told by the people stemming from the very bottom of the London society - crooks and beggars, pimps and prostitutes, thieves and corrupted policemen. Irina Oleinik noted that by the end of the season that will last till the mid summer, the Gomel Regional Drama Theater will present three premieres. The public will also be able to see performances of the Nizhny Novgorod Gorky Academic Drama Theater and theaters from Kursk, Ryazan and Brest.
