Gomel to host exhibition of pictures on glass

GOMEL, 27 July (BelTA) – Gomel Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace will play host to the exhibition of pictures on glass on 28 July, BelTA has learned. The exposition will feature 46 pictures provided by the Vernacular Architecture and Ethnic Heritage Museum. The museum’s exhibits reflect traditional way of life of people of the late 19th century. Among the exhibits is a unique collection of pictures on glass. Painting on glass is a unique type of folk arts. The Renaissance witnessed a blossom of this art in Europe. In Belarus it was especially popular with peasants who made glass icons. In the first half of the 20th century craftsmen made painted photo frames, portraits and landscapes. They adorned walls of rural houses. The exhibition is organized within the framework of the project “Gomel, the Cultural Capital of Belarus and the CIS 2011”.
