Japan to continue aiding Chernobyl-affected areas of Gomel region

Japan will develop its cooperation with Belarus step by step, Charge D'affaires Pro Tempore of Japan to Belarus Koike Takayuki told BelTA. The diplomat took part in the presentation of an exhibition "Japan Culture and Traditions", which is taking place in Gomel regional local lore museum. "First of all, we will continue giving humanitarian and technical aid to affected areas of Gomel region," the source noted. Let us remind, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe Japanese diplomats handed over USD 156,000 worth of medical equipment to Vetka and Chechersk district medical associations. According to Koike Takayuki, exchange programmes for medical specialists will continue. The Belarusian-Japanese relations will be fostered by cooperation in the cultural field as well. One of the first steps in this direction will be the exhibition "Japan Culture and Traditions" in Gomel, the Japanese diplomat believes. For the two weeks over 1,500 Gomel residents and guests visited the exhibition.
