Lukashenko wants greater efficiency in agriculture

KALINKOVICHI DISTRICT, 17 August (BelTA) – President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has demanded greater efficiency in the agricultural industry during his working trip to Gomel Oblast on 17 August, BelTA has learnt. Talking about Gomel Oblast, Alexander Lukashenko focused on efficiency of grain production. The President believes that Gomel Oblast could easily harvest 1.5 million tonnes of grain, or even 2 million tonnes using advanced technologies. So far Gomel Oblast is lagging behind. Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik said that it makes sense to grow more winter crops in the region. Last year, their profitability made up 6%. Therefore, the governor is convinced that taking into consideration the climatic conditions and potential of Gomel Oblast, the region should focus on growing winter crops. He noted that the land under winter crops is expanded year-to-year in the region. The head of state gave an instruction to determine what crops are best for Gomel Oblast and to enhance the efficiency of their production. Alexander Lukashenko praised the professionalism of the Gomel Oblast Governor. The President believes that Vladimir Dvornik can help the region to improve the grain harvest statistics. “Gomel Oblast is lagging behind in this regard. However, the region is the leader in terms of land reclamation and production of new crops,” the head of state said.
