Milk production in Gomel oblast jumps by 11% in January

In January 2007 Gomel oblast produced 41,500 tons of milk, an increase of 11% over the same period last year, BelTA learnt in the committee for agriculture and foodstuffs of the oblast executive committee. The total milk yield went up in all the regions of the oblast: by 29% in the Mozyr region, by 20% in the Rechitsa region, by 18% in the Petrikov region. Over the January this year a total of 31,800 tons of milk or 114% to the level of January 2006 were sold. The average milk sales went up by 76.6% as against last year. The productivity of milk cattle went up in 17 regions. The average milk yield per cow made up 238kg in January 2007, 6% more than last year. In Mozyr regions this index increased by 16%, in Dobrush region – 14%, Svetlogorsk – 13%. In 2006 Gomel oblast produced a total of 592,700 tons of milk, 8% more than in 2005.
