Minsk to host 8th junior ice hockey tournament 6-8 November

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – The 8th international junior ice hockey tournament, the President's Sports Club Cup, will take place at Chizhovka Arena in the Belarusian capital on 6-8 November, BelTA has learned.

Belarus (U-17) will go head to head with Latvia (U-17), Russia (U-16) and Slovakia (U-16).

The competitions provides the opportunity to talented Belarusian hockey players that start their career as part of their national teams test themselves in a faceoff against teams from other countries and get invaluable game practice. For the time of its existence the tournament has gained popularity both inside the hosting country and abroad.

For teams the visit to Minsk is a necessary part of the preparations for the main annual international competitions as well as a debut before a wide audience and specialists. The teams participating in the Minsk tournament comprise the best players whose predecessors have already been playing in the NHL, KHL, and adult national teams.

The tournament is one of main international ice hockey starts held in Belarus. It was first held in November 2007. In 2010 Belarus and Russia were joined by Slovakia. Partaking in the competitions in different years were the teams of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Slovenia.

Russia won the tournament in 2007, 2010-2013. Belarus held the title in 2008 and 2009.

Head coach of the Belarusian junior national team Sergei Belov and assistant coach Alexander Orlenko named the following players to the roster for forthcoming competitions:

Goaltenders – Dmitry Rodik, Roman Androsyuk (both Dinamo Raubichi);
Defensemen – Yevgeny Pateshenko, Dmitry Burovtsev, Dmitry Klyuiko, Vladislav Tsiklauri, Vladislav Sokolovsky, Konstantin Yaromchik, Ivan Syritsyn (all Dinamo Raubichi), Andrei Gostev (Metallurg 2 Zhlobin);
Forwards – Timofei Balezin, Yevgeny Tretyakov, Alexander Lukashevich, Konstantin Chugunkov, Vladislav Khadarovich, Anton Khomyakov, Arseny Astashevich, Fyodor Pyshkailo, Dmitry Danilov, Yegor Sharangovich, Leonid Ivanovsky, Nikita Zhuk, avel Yushkevich (all Dinamo Raubichi), Andrei Orlovsky (Yunior Minsk), Ilya Pugach (Neman 2 Grodno).

The competitions are organized by the President's Sports Club, the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation and Minsk City Hall.
