Music of Hope contest gathers 200 young musicians from 5 countries

The solemn opening ceremony of the 8th International Children’s Contest Music of Hope was held in Gomel on December 15. The contest was launched by a concert of a brass band of the Belarusian State Academy of Music led by People’s Artist of Belarus Mikhail Bersan, BelTA has learnt. About 200 young and promising musicians from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland and France came to Gomel to take part in the competition. The contest is conducted in two age groups and in two categories: wind instruments and percussion instruments. The contest is aimed at finding and supporting young hopefuls, developing creativity, raising performance skills and promoting the musical art. The winners will be announced at the closing of the competition on December 19. The best performers will be awarded diplomas, money and prizes. The contest is organized by the Culture Ministry of Belarus, the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus on support of the talented youth and the Culture Department of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee. The competition is held every two years. The first contest was held in 1996 in Gomel. The competition traditionally demonstrates a high level of performance by its participants, reveals interesting musicians. Taking part in it are scholarship holders of the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus on support of the talented youth, winners of various international competitions. This competition became a good tradition strengthening and developing friendly ties between the CIS and non-CIS states.
